Story

It's about a nova class ship, the U.S.S. Batavia. Along with several other ships they are assigned to a region of space in the outer corners of Federation space called the Dark Hinterlands. That region of space is a troubled one, there are many conflict between Federation colonists and the native inhabitants. The job of the people assigned here is to restore an maintain order in this forgotten piece of space and of course they run into many obstacles and discover things they've never seen before...
